About the Project and Artist

Through continual exploration of the spaces in between, the iNBetween Project asks a fundamental question: what emerges between things that gives rise to meaning?

This is an ongoing, deeply personal body of work curated and shaped by Caleb Tao.

Born in China and shaped in Canada, Tao has built a life around questioning, interpreting, and expressing the liminal—that is, the states that exist between identities, across cultures, and beneath surfaces. Through music, imagery, and writing, he traces often-unnoticed connections between identity, class, power, emotion, and the existential textures of being.

Over the past decade, Tao has moved fluidly between cultures, languages, and disciplines. For him, in-betweenness is not merely a circumstance—it is a creative state: one that flickers into visibility for a moment but leaves a more permanent resonance.

The aim of the iNBetween Project is to document the many forms of in-betweenness through creative practices that arise from it—whether in sound, image, or text.

Tao also holds a master’s degree in Communication and Culture, where his academic research examined how the modular architecture of social media platforms shapes cultural participation—drawing from British cultural studies and contemporary media theory.

This site serves as a home for Tao’s interdisciplinary journey. It brings together his work across mediums, mapping the threads that connect sound, image, language, and culture—and inviting others to explore the spaces in between: between art and work, thought and feeling, here and there.
